  • Routines and rules are important to them

  • Bored with too much repetition 

  • Quick , imaginative and strategic mind – they can see things from many perspectives. But they use their creativity & imagination not so much for creating arts, but for planning purposes and problem-solving.

  • High self-confidence – they trust in their decision-making skills and choices.

  • Independent & decisive – they take responsibility for their own actions, and stay calm & detached all the time.

  • Hard- working & determined – they are incredibly efficient , always working hard towards their goals.

  • Open – minded – they stay open to new ideas , supported by logic, even if they prove their previous conceptions wrong.

  • Very intelligent – they excel at analysing the underlying meaning and methodology of everything.

  • Arrogant / too confident – they wouldn’t listen to other’s opinions of these they believe to be more dumber than them.

  • Judge-mental – they like to judge others, especially the authorities.

  • Intolerant - they think that emotions are illogical.

  • Overly analytical – they overthink everything.

  • Loathe highly structured environment – they hate blindly following rules without understanding them, and it makes their lives more difficult than it needs to be.

At their best

  • Independent , intellectually capable and confident people

  • Have incredibly high personal standards

  • Can be creative problem solvers and gifted artists and writers

  • May settle to a conventional lifestyle after a long term of self-discovery , but some will continue to pursue a challenging and non-conformist life

  • Aspire to be the best at whatever they are doing 

  • Most will continue life-long learning

INTJs as Children and Students

  • Seem wise or older than their years 

  • Self-contained and calm, cautious and slow warming up to strangers

  • Happy to play alone for long periods of time

  • Hesitant to get involved in the play of other children, prefer to observe first then join

  • Have rich inner lives 

  • Curious about the natural world , ask a lot of questions about why things are

  • Much more fascinated with new experiences than with new people

  • Have highly developed imaginations, enjoy testing their environments to more fully understand what makes it work

  • Love books, and being read to

  • Love visiting museums, esp science museums

  • Happiest when they are given plenty room and time to explore what interests them

  • Competitive with themselves

  • Don’t cry easily or often as other children and prefer to privately comfort themselves

  • Refuse help or input on projects they are working on and may abandon them if others offer too much advice or comments

  • Have a clear vision of what they want to accomplish

  • Usually comforted and comfortable with routines and structure around them

  • Have a nice sense of order and like lining up their toys or organizing their socks

  • Take longer to make decisions, as they need to gather info to be confident of their actions

  • Love learning and absorb new information and complex ideas quickly

  • Put a lot of effort in things they are interested in, but lazy to do whatever they dislike

  • Independent people, may spend much of their lives in their own world

  • Prefer playing one on one with a special friend or playing alone

  • Fascinated with global issues and enjoy theoretical discussions and debates

  • Have big ideas and are comfortable with disagreeing with others on issues of values, morals or beliefs if they find it illogical

  • Learn to demonstrate their artistic talents and unique vision

  • Like studying a variety of different subjects in amazing depth

  • Natural inventors and often enjoy making scientific experiments

  • Best at open-ended projects that allow them to work on their own

  • Prone to perfectionism , work to meet their own high standards , don’t care to please others

  • Much more interested in designing and starting projects than maintaining it

  • Become more outgoing than they were as younger children, but socialising stills drains their energy

  • Enjoy individual sports or activities that require a high level of personal skill

  • Academics are their first priority

  • Quality of their education is linked to the amount of freedom of choice and the level of their internal motivation

  • Continue to pursue their own interests

  • Their natural love for learning, coupled with the advanced subject content and increased independent study of high school means they can really pursue their education with full energy

  • Want to create their own unique image and embrace their individuality

  • Naturally look beyond the immediate circumstances and have an innate ability to see far-reaching implications of actions

  • Able to anticipate trends and quickly grasp how one discrete event can have an impact on many unrelated people or things

  • Have strong opinions about fairness and justice, willing to stand up for things they believe in

  • Value and respect their unique perspective and competence

  • Need privacy to dream and make connections and the freedom to analyse and fully understand the world around them

  • Need to be allowed to question their parents and their environment and come to conclusion they believe are logical and right

  • Encourage their creativity and find positive outlets for their critical thinking skills 

  • Encourage them to work towards their vision 

  • Accept and understand them for who they are
